A pair of good trips to the theater, some great Netflix rentals, and a ton of college football filled this week for me. One of the movies I saw in theaters, The Guard starring Brendan Gleeson, is now one of my favorite movies of the year. I also finally got around to seeing two sci-fi classics at home. Hey Lazy Cyborg followers. This last week has been a bit slower than the first few weeks of the site, and I just wanted to keep you informed. Chris and I are in the process of moving and packing and such, so that has taken up a decent amount of our time. We will try to get as much content as possible over the next month, but this is a crazy time for us and we probably won’t be up to full capacity until the move is complete in early October. I am hoping to still be able to get up all the weekly articles. The ‘Week in Review’ article has been giving me some trouble the last couple of weeks, but I hope to have the second edition complete for tonight. Also the multiple daily casting articles were getting to be a bit much for the time being, so I will be switching over to a weekly article wrapping up the most recent casting news, and that should hopefully be up every Wednesday. I’m going to try it out and see if it sticks.

One of my most anticipated films is opening this week, and I’ve already seen another film that was a pleasant surprise. I’ll address that one first in the article. Battlestar Galactica actress Tricia Helfer has lined up a recurring role on NBC’s upcoming drama series The Firm. The show is based on John Grisham’s best-selling novel and the 1993 Tom Cruise film, but is set ten years later. Josh Lucas takes over Cruise’s role of Mitch McDeere as he and his wife Abby (Molly Parker) try to start a new life in Washington D.C. According to TVline, Helfer will play Alex Clark, the senior partner of Kinross & Clark, who brings in Mitch as a partner. Also in the cast are Juliette Lewis as Tammy, Mitch’s “feisty” receptionist, and another BSG star Callum Keith Rennie as Ray McDeere, Mitch’s volatile older brother. Production on the series is currently underway in Toronto, and it is being set up as a midseason replacement for NBC.
As a huge fan of Battlestar Galactica, it is nice to see a lot of the show’s stars getting lots more work in the Hollywood TV world. In addition to Helfer and Rennie, other Battlestar vets including Jamie Bamber (Apollo), Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck), and James Callis (Dr. Baltar), among others, have lined up series regular gigs. Mary McDonnell (President Roslin) joined the cast of TNT’s The Closer last year, while Grace Park (Athena/Boomer) will be starting her second season on CBS’ Hawaii Five-O in September.
